Palestinian medical sources have confirmed that Israeli forces shot and killed 2 Palestinian activists in the northern West Bank town of Nablus early this morning. The assault took place during an Israeli army raid, during which the two victims, both members of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, were engaged in gun battles with dozens of Israeli troops.

Later on Thursday, another Palestinian teenager was shot and killed near Qalandia Israeli military checkpoint on the northern outskirts of occupied east Jerusalem. Israeli military sources claim that the 17-year old was attempting to infiltrate the city illegally. He was shot in the leg, and was left to bleed to death.

Senior advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, has voiced the Palestinian Authority’s condemnation of the attacks, saying that “…Israel’s continued targeting and killing of our people with impunity is a clear indication of the Israeli government’s intentions to sustain and intensify the vicious cycle of violence, which poses a serious threat to diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving progress in the peace process.”

Palestinian political forces and Israel had agreed last November on a truce aimed at ending months of Israeli assaults against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, and Palestinian mortar fire on Israeli towns across the border. The truce is limited to the Strip, which is increasingly raising concern among Palestinians that Israel will exploit this in order to continue military assaults on civilians in towns and villages across the West Bank.
