In the latest public opinion poll prepared by Dr. Nabil Kukali and conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO):

  • (26 %) Consider themselves members in Palestinian political parties and movements.
  • (72.4%) Would participate in the coming PLC-elections.
  • (35.2%) Would vote for Fateh list in the elections of the proportional Representation, and (26.7%) for Hamas.
  • (34.4%) Of the Palestinians are in favor of harboring their daughters if they were involved in a case of family disgrace.
  • (50.2%) Believe that security is their main concern.

In the latest poll prepared by Dr. Nabil Kukali and conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO) in the period from (14 – 19) of June, 2005 during different working hours, a random sample of (925) Palestinian adults over 18 years was included, representing the various demographic models of the Palestinian society in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip. “All interviews took place on the basis of random choices of respondent’s homes, i.e. face to face”,

Dr. Kukali, Director of PCPO, said. These sites in turn were the beginning of the random sample choice made from that region in accordance with PCPO’s long experienced methodology. The sampling error throughout the survey is found at (±3.22%). The percentage of female respondents was (48.8%) whilst that of the male ones was (51.2%). The distribution of the random sample among the residential areas of the respondents was (66.3%) in the West Bank, incl. East Jerusalem, and (33.7%) in Gaza Strip. The average age of the random sample of the respondents was (32.1) years.

Dr. Nabil Kukali, Director of the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO) said that the most important issue this poll has shown is that the higher rate (35.2%) of the Palestinians would vote for Fateh list in the PLC-elections, followed by Hamas (26.7%). Dr. Kukali added that the majority will participate in the PLC-elections, even if these were postponed, and indicated that the rate of the Palestinian citizens, who are affiliated to Palestinian parties and factions, is still low. Dr. Nabil Kukali further said that about a high rate of the Palestinian people, around (34.4%), are in favor of harboring their daughters if involved in a case of family disgrace and that a considerable rate among Palestinians describe themselves as religious. The main concern of the citizen at present is the security, Dr. Kukali added. He further mentioned that the majority of the Palestinians are against the phenomenon of the spreading of the factions' and parties' flags, where the real flag of Palestine is missing.
