Your Key to Palestine
The Palestinian Initiatives for The Promotoion of Global Dialogue and Democracy

The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy (MIFTAH) strongly condemns the latest Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, in which Israeli troops, backed by tanks and helicopter gun ships, killed 13 Palestinians and wounded 50 at AlNada and Beit Lahya in Gaza and the Tulkarem refugee camp in the West Bank.

The Israeli raid against AlNada, located between Beit Lahya and Beit Hanoon, started in the early Tuesday morning hours, April 20th, 2004, when Israeli forces fired indiscriminately at residential buildings in Gaza town. PCHR in Gaza reported that a number of Palestinian children and young men gathered in the area and threw stones at Israeli military vehicles. In an excessive and disproportionate use of force, Israeli soldiers in tanks fired live bullets and artillery shells at the stone throwers, killing four on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the Israeli raid continued as troops and armored vehicles moved into Beith Lahya near AlNada, occupation soldiers were met with fierce resistance including many civilian stone throwers. The Israelis opened fire killing six other Palestinians, including a Palestinian child while wounding dozens.

On Thursday, in the early dawn hours, Israeli troops invaded the West Bank refugee camp of Tulkarem and shot and killed three members of Al-Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade. Witnesses say the troops did not attempt to make any arrests as they entered the refugee camp firing live bullets indiscriminately, killing the three and wounding 20 civilians in the West Bank refugee camp.

Names of the 13 Palestinian killed in the past 24 hours: 15-year-old Radwan Hamttu, 16-year-old Mohammad AlMalhoof, 17-year-old Khaldoon Abu Jarad and Mohammad AlTanini, 18-year-old Mo’tasim Nuseir, Mohammad AlAjoori and Moahammad AlRanteesi, 19-year-old Ibraheem AlRayan, 25-year-old Suhail AlHirish and 28-year-old Ra’fat Haseera. The three men, in their late twenties, killed at the Tulkarem refugee camp are: Bilal Amsha, Ghanim Ghanim and Aiman Bagharna.

Israel’s latest assault against Palestinian residents of refugee camps constitutes an escalation by Ariel Sharon’s radical right wing government against the Palestinian people. Israel’s policies of harsh militarism and uncompromising battering of a predominantly civilian Palestinian population amounts to a grave violation of the most basic human rights and calls for urgent action. The international community, with all its governments, institutions, and civil society, must hold the Israeli government accountable for its actions, and must not allow such dangerous and irresponsible policies to continue unchallenged.

MIFTAH calls upon the international community, specifically the representatives of the foreign governments in Israel and the Palestinian Authority, to intervene, address and stop such Israeli assaults against the Palestinian people. We urge the international community to adopt a clear position against injustice and to put an end to Israel’s illegal and immoral occupation of the Palestinian territories.
