Your Key to Palestine
The Palestinian Initiatives for The Promotoion of Global Dialogue and Democracy

The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy (MIFTAH) strongly condemns the latest Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, in which Israeli troops, backed by tanks and helicopter gunships, killed 15 Palestinians and wounded hundreds, 30 of whom are in serious condition in Rafah, Gaza.

Israeli troops launched this latest assault on the southern Gaza tip of Rafah last week, demolishing more than 100 homes at the refugee camp bordering Egypt. Up until late Tuesday evening, the operation had left at least 1100 Palestinians homeless as Israel vows to continue with their assault and home demolition.

Israel's actions have caused an outcry internationally, but Israel’s policy of collective punishment and home destruction was defended by a US administration spokesperson as “self defense,” taking place at Palestinian neighborhoods and refugee camps. Amnesty International, as well as other human rights groups, considers Israel's demolition of homes a war crime.

Israeli armored bulldozers, backed by army tanks and jeeps, are digging a trench to separate Tal Il-Sultan refugee camp from the rest of Rafah. The occupation army also launched three missile attacks overnight on Palestinian homes and neighborhoods at the refugee camp killing 15 and wounding hundreds, 30 of whom are in serious condition.

The names of Palestinians killed in the past 12 hours in Rafah are: 17-year-old Ahmad AlSha’ir and his 18-year-old brother Mohammad, 18-year-old Ibraheem AlBallawi, 20-year-old Hani Koffa, 21-year-old Mohammad AlJawajha, 22-year-old Said AlMaghazi and Ziad Shabaneh, 24-year-old Mohammad AlJundi, 25-year-old Tareq AlEid and Mohammad Darweesh, 27-year old Walid Abu Jazar, 33-year-old Mahmoud Abu Touq and 34-year-old Imad AlMaghari, two others are not yet identified.

24-year-old Nidal Abd AlRohman was shot dead early this morning as Israeli troops invaded the city of Nablus firing at random and hitting Nidal in the heart. In another incident, 21-year-old Mohammad Hamid from Silwad, Ramallah was shot in the head and killed early on Tuesday by Israeli troops in the West Bank town. In the past week Israeli occupation troops have killed more than 60 Palestinians throughout Gaza and the West Bank. Occupation forces have also demolished and destroyed hundreds of Palestinian homes leaving thousands of Palestinians homeless.

Amnesty International has released a report in which it accuses Israel of destroying more than 3,000 homes in the last few years of violence, making thousands of Palestinians homeless. The organization says that some of Israel's house demolitions amount to grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention and are war crimes. There has been widespread international condemnation of the demolitions, described by the Palestinian cabinet as tantamount to "ethnic cleansing."

MIFTAH calls upon the international community to intervene and stop such Israeli assaults against the Palestinian people. We urge the international community to adopt a clear position against injustice and to put an end to Israel’s illegal and immoral occupation of the Palestinian territories.
