Your Key to Palestine
The Palestinian Initiatives for The Promotoion of Global Dialogue and Democracy

The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy (MIFTAH) categorically condemns the shooting of Palestinian PLC member Nabil Amr yesterday, and the lawlessness from whence it was derived.

Mr. Amr was shot twice in the leg at his home in Ramallah last evening, minutes after having returned from a television interview during which he criticized the PNA’s unwillingness to reform. Doctors confirmed that his injuries are not life-threatening.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Mr. Amr as yet, and while Palestinian police are still investigating the incident, the shooting recalled a similar incident in 2002 during which Mr. Amr’s house was shot at by gunmen who called him “a traitor.”

Mr. Amr is a member of President Arafat’s Fatah party, and has served since 1996 in the Palestinian Legislative Council, representing Doura, Hebron. He is a member of the Palestinian negotiation team, and has served in Arafat’s government as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and as Minister of Information in the short-lived government of Mahmoud Abbas.

MIFTAH denounces all forms of violence categorically, and condemns in no uncertain terms all acts that seek to destroy the rule of law in the Palestinian territories. Such acts do great disservice to the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people.
