Your Key to Palestine
The Palestinian Initiatives for The Promotoion of Global Dialogue and Democracy

The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy (MIFTAH) calls on the international community to take immediate steps to stop Israel’s aggression against the Palestinian people and leadership, particularly in the aftermath of Israel’s attack against the Palestine Broadcasting Corporation (PBC).

In the early hours of this morning, Saturday January 19th, 2002, the Israeli army destroyed the compound of the PBC in Ramallah, inflicting severe material damage on one of the most vital Palestinian institutions, and blatantly violating Palestinian press freedom and the most fundamental Palestinian civil rights.

MIFTAH urges the international community, particularly human rights and press freedom institutions, to take a firm stance against these measures, which constitute an aggressive Israeli attempt to destroy the remaining symbols of Palestinian statehood, and disregard the Palestinian national aspirations for freedom.

Ariel Sharon’s radical right-wing government has carried out consecutive premeditated assaults against the Palestinian people and leadership, provoking further violence and leading the entire region into an endless cycle of violence and conflict.

The international community has a moral and legal obligation to take a firm stance to end the Israeli atrocities committed against the Palestinians, most notably through the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949.

Israel cannot continue to behave as a rogue state, above the law, and in defiance of international legality and morality, rather it must be made to abide by international law and be held accountable to the crimes it commits against a captive and civilian Palestinian population.

MIFTAH reaffirms that international silence will only lead to further tension, allowing the behavior of Sharon’s war government to drag the region into disaster. International condemnation towards such actions and policies is an obligation for international society to uphold freedom, justice and peace.
