Your Key to Palestine
The Palestinian Initiatives for The Promotoion of Global Dialogue and Democracy

Yesterday in the northern Arab Israeli city of Shafa Amer four innocent Palestinians with Israeli citizenship were brutally killed, and twelve other civilians suffered serious injuries, when an Israeli soldier opened fire in a bus heading towards the Arab city. It was later identified that the soldier, was a member of the Jewish extremist group Kach.

At a time where the world at large concentrates and eagerly awaits the ‘historically’ deemed ‘Unilateral Disengagement Plan from Gaza,’ Israeli settlers have a plan of their own, they will stop at nothing to hinder their evacuation from the many illegal settlements that they illegally inhabit.

MIFTAH, would like to emphasize that this latest attack was not just an isolated incident, nor was it the work of a "crazed individual" acting alone. It was rather nurtured by and is directly related to a general culture of anti-Arab sentiment and racism prevailing inside Jewish Israeli society that has grown particularly intense in the weeks leading up to disengagement from Gaza. However, MIFTAH would like to stress that the extremism present amongst settlers emanates from the fact that the occupation and settlements has made settlers act above the law, with blessings and support from the State of Israel.

MIFTAH, calls on all members of the international community, particularly the diplomatic representations inside Israel, to closely monitor the rise in racist violence against Palestinians with Israeli citizenship and to accelerate the incorporation of human rights into all its official diplomatic relations with Israel. Furthermore, MIFTAH would like the international community to pressure Israel to comply with all resolutions and international law and legitimacy that deem all settlement illegal and hence call for their dismantlement.

The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy, MIFTAH, is a non-governmental, non-partisan Jerusalem-based institution dedicated to fostering democracy and good governance within Palestinian society through promoting public accountability, transparency, the free flow of information and ideas and the challenging of stereotyping at home and abroad.
