Your Key to Palestine
The Palestinian Initiatives for The Promotoion of Global Dialogue and Democracy

The constant variable in the Palestinian-Israeli equation is illegal occupation. The pre-Oslo era, the post Oslo "arrangement," the Intifada, and even the current "War Against Terrorism" stage all share one single analogy within the Palestinian context: an end to Israeli occupation is the only constructive solution to the destructive Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

A delusional global dichotomy has been desperately imposed by President Bush at the wake of the September 11th attack against Washington and New York, namely his ultimatum to the people of the world - "If you're not with us, you're against us." These misleading interpretations of today's international climate will not/cannot alter the course of the Palestinian discourse. The fact is the Palestinian national struggle for liberation is based on international legality, international morality, and, essentially, on the universal human will to eradicate injustice and oppression. Thus, a word of caution must be said, not least for those who have already taken the liberty to place the Palestinians on either side of Bush's 'loudspeaker diplomacy' calculations.

The unquestionable Palestinian condemnation of the terrorist attack against the US stems not only from the shared norms of human decency and ethical judgment, but equally from assertive Palestinian identification with the loss of innocent lives to the unleashing horrors of cruelty, inhumanity, and terrorism. Throughout the past twelve months alone, 730 Palestinians fell victim to such inhumanity. Israel's unleashing of unchallenged war machines on a civilian Palestinian population bares witness to the urgency of putting an end to Israeli occupation, and to the measures adopted by General Ariel Sharon to sustain, and even expand, occupation through militarism and power politics.

The Palestinian cause is not one of mere emotional reaction to suppression, swayed by the slightest pinch of rhetoric. Rather, it is a pragmatic national quest for freedom, based on universally-recognized rights. An unconditional Israeli withdrawal to the June 1967 boundaries, the return of 5 million dispossessed Palestinians to their homeland, and the dismantlement of illegal Israeli settlements constructed on Palestinian land to sustain occupation are the guiding variables of the Palestinian cause. Not an imposed reality by the US, which only leads to widening an already tragic gap between the liberated and the oppressed.
