A recent visit by the American First Lady, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, to the region did not pass without some controversy. Her non-reaction to Palestinian criticism of Israel’s human rights violations, and apparent snub of Palestinian officials has been perceived by many as a “neglecting” attitude by Mrs. Clinton towards Palestinian issues and concerns, and the spirit of the peace process altogether. As the momentum of the final status negotiations is picking up, a more solid and “assertive” American stand is needed.
