The time Israel has decided it would build security buffer zone, deep in northern ‘evacuated Gaza Strip’, it has advanced one more step back in confidence-building measures with the Palestinian people and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).

Israeli rhetoric in media is apparently contravening with the Israeli government’s decision-making when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Adding more momentum to its recent unilateral disengagement from the Gaza Strip, Israel has decided to build a buffer zone at the northern border with the Gaza Strip, delving deep into Palestinian soil, under the same stereotypical pretext of security.

Instead of restarting the peace negotiations with the PNA, and coming to an understanding on free movement of ‘freed Gazans’ in the post occupation era, which are the most important decisions the Israeli government should have taken; Israel has further stuck to its ‘racist’ policy that not only cuts people off, but also cuts hopes of peaceful coexistence between both the Israelis and Palestinians.

The zone, Israel is going to build on the northern Gaza Strip, will definitely make the Gaza Strip a ‘big prison’ for about 1,3 million Palestinians, as the Strip’s main boundaries are, Israel from the north, Israel from the east, Israel and Egypt from the south and the Mediterranean sea from the west.

Building the zone is making the Palestinian people much more confident that Israel is not interested in normal neighboring ties , especially after the evacuation of Israeli troops and settlers.

The security zone in northern Gaza resembles the problematic Shab’a farms in southern Lebanon, which has rather brought more no confidence between Israel and Lebanon, since 2002. Three years of unilateral withdrawal from the Lebanese soil has achieved three more years of hatred between Israelis and Lebanese, as fighting in the area takes place from time to time, saving no more blood from both sides.

Because of such a zone, if built, one more confidence losing will be on the part of the PNA’a relation with its own people, particularly the resistance-oriented factions, mainly Hamas, which declared it will turn the would-be northern Gaza security zone, into another Shab’a farms.

Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, stated in New York last week that the ‘Palestinians can live alongside Israel’, and demanded the PNA to take actions to rein in militants.

As for coexistence, it needs confidence building measures from the part of Israel like facilitating movement of Palestinians on border crossings and checkpoints, building economic ties with the Palestinian National Authority, rather than constructing a zone of hatred, that further complicates the atmosphere. The second part of Sharon’s remarks, needs as well more strengthening of the PNA’s standing in front of its people by rebuilding ties with it, on basis of mutual cooperation for the sake of real peaceful coexistence between both entities.

Peaceful coexistence between the Palestinians and Israelis can never take place by words being uttered in international gatherings, it rather happens with real actions on the ground , as actions speak louder than words!!!
