This week is Al-Nakba commemoration week. Dozens of events are planned to commemorate the catastrophic ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and to demand peace based on justice including the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes, lands, and businesses. Events are held at refugee camps throughout the Middle East and in many cities throughout the world (London, Washington DC, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, New York, Beirut, Amman, Tel Aviv, Damascus etc). For a glimpse of details of these events, visit http://www.al-awda.org/index.php?page=Events.
We ask the media to cover these events and we ask
activists to participate in events and contact the
media to ensure coverage of events. Activists are
also encouraged to write letters to the editor and
op-ed pieces. For help in this, see Our actions are especially important in these days of lies about easing conditions on Palestinians while Israel actually tightens restrictions, continued land confiscation, and continued mass oppression and denial of basic human right. Anyone comparing some media coverage in the US will see how divergent it is from events on the ground and their coverage in the Middle East (e.g. Palestinian newspapers). As an example, please read the message below from the Mayor of my old hometown (Beit Sahour, the Shepherds' Field). Also join us for an International Convention in Toronto, June 20-22. Details and registration form are at http://Al-Awda.org.
