Your Key to Palestine
The Palestinian Initiatives for The Promotoion of Global Dialogue and Democracy

A volunteer lawyer at LAW-the Palestinian Society for the Protection of Human Rights and the Environment visited Israeli Atsiyon prison south Bethlehem and met with two detained Palestinian children: Ala Zein, 15 and Yusif Mtair, 15. The two Palestinian children were detained during Israel troops search of their homes. They were severely beaten, held in painful positions, and threatened with electrocution had they not confessed to hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails at Israeli troops.

The lawyer also visited Ofer detention center near Betunia and met with two Jordanian nationals who are held in Israeli custody. The detainees described their ordeal and expressed the uncertainties about what would happen to them.

Law’s volunteering lawyer also visited new Israeli Binyamin detention center at Ofer military camp where prisoners went on an open hunger strike in protest of the Israeli oppressive measures against them.

The lawyer learned of the case of a sick Palestinian detainee named Mahmoud Sleiman, 29 who has been held in custody since October 22, 2003. Sleiman suffers heart disease and joints pain. Another Palestinian detainee named Khaled Daras was beaten with clubs and rifle butts until he passed out. He has broken ribs and has been denied any medical treatment.

Law Society demands the international community to intervene and put and end to the suffering of the Palestinian detainees through exerting pressure on the Israeli government to release all Palestinian detainees. Also, Law Society demands all support for Palestinians detained at Israeli prisons and detention centers, especially the sick ones.

The international community and international organizations must take action and end Israel’s crimes against Palestinians and to immediately implement international resolutions.
