GAZA, November 09, 2003 (IPC+Agencies)-- Foreign Minister of Sweden Laila Freivalds voiced on Saturday that the Jewish colonial settlements and the construction of the apartheid wall by Israel, contravening with international law and have not assured the security of Israel.

“The Israeli occupation has to be ended,” Laila Freivalds said in an article published by the Swedish Svenska Dagbladet daily.

In the same bracket, about 10,000 campaigners poured into the streets of Rome protesting against the construction of the apartheid wall, in support of a bid made by the leftist union and organizations in Italy.

The marchers held up posters “stop construction the apartheid wall” and a paper made corporeal of the wall.

According to a report prepared by the UN Commission on Human Rights, over 210,000 Palestinians will be seriously affected by the Wall. Palestinians living between the Wall and the Green Line will be effectively cut off from their farmlands, workplaces, schools, health clinics and other social services.

The Israeli government has approved a budget of $1.3 billion for the construction of the Wall in its different phases, which has taken by the end of last August up to 165,000 dunums (165,000,000 square meters) of the richest lands in the Palestinian territories.

In the meantime, more than 500 Palestinians and Israeli peace activists had demonstrated south of occupied east Jerusalem, protesting the construction of the apartheid wall built by Israel in the Palestinian territories.

The rally synchronizes with the 14th anniversary of the bringing down of Berlin wall that separating the East Germany from West Germany in the aftermath of the cold war decades.

The Israeli occupation authorities claimed that the apartheid wall has been built around the west bank –the UN General assembly approved a resolution condemning it- to thwart the infiltration of the Palestinian resistance activists inside the green line.

The Palestinian leadership asserted that the aim of constructing the apartheid wall is to annex as much as possible Palestinian lands and drive out its indigenous dwellers and create a de facto borders between Israel and a future Palestinian state.
