The Palestinian Initiatives for The Promotoion of Global Dialogue and Democracy
 
 
 

The key poll results are:

  • (85.2%) of the Palestinians oppose ISIL.
  • (93.2%) oppose the disarmament of the Palestinian resistance.
  • (87.6%) support a long-term truce.
  • (65.4%) are at various degrees content with the Egyptian mediation.
  • (81.1%) rated the stance of the US-president Barack Obama as “negative”.

The latest poll prepared by Dr. Nabil Kukali and conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (www.pcpo.org), during the period from August 14-19, 2014 covered a random sample of (1000) Palestinian respondents representing the various demographic specimens of adult Palestinians (18 years and above) living in Gaza Strip. It revealed that (85.2%) of the Palestinians oppose the organization of the ISIL.

Dr. Nabil Kukali, President of the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion, said in a statement that this survey has been conducted in the Gaza Strip during the temporary six-days cease-fire respite agreed between the Palestinians and the Israelis. The poll results, Dr. Kukali said, will be published at intervals parallel to the progress of the events in Gaza Strip, hoping to reflect thereby the perceptions and the feelings of the Palestinian street in Gaza, particularly in the light of the Israeli military operation the Protective Edge” (“The Eaten Straw”). Dr. Kukali added also in his comment that the overwhelming majority of the Palestinian people vehemently oppose the organization of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and also oppose the disarmament of the Palestinian resistance, but support a long-term truce.

Dr. Kukali further stated that the majority of the Palestinians in Gaza Strip are in favor of the Palestinian Authority taking resort to the International Criminal Court in the Hague to file charges of war crimes committed by Israel during the military operation “the Protective edge / the Eaten Straw”. In addition , Dr. Kukali mentioned that the Palestinian public in Gaza Strip are content with the mediation role Egypt is playing in the armed conflict and the majority believe that the Iranian-Qatari-Turkish intervention would not affect Hamas relationship with Egypt. On the other hand, Dr. Kukali established from the poll results that the Palestinians rated the stance of the US-President Barack Obama during the military operation as negative.

Preparation of the Palestinian Resistance

Responding to the question: “Was the Palestinian resistance prepared for this aggression or not”, (57.9%) said “it was well prepared”, (33.8%) “somewhat prepared”, (6%) “somehow unprepared”, (2.3%) “unprepared at all”.

Disarmament of the Palestinian Resistance

(93.2%) of the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip oppose the disarmament of the Palestinian resistance, whilst (3%) were in favor thereof and (3.8%) declined to answer the relevant question.

The Calm

(87.6%) of the respondents are in favor of a long-term truce, (10.2%) are in favor of a medium-term truce and (2.2%) are in favor of a short-term truce.

Stance of the US-President Barack Obama

Regarding the question:”How would you rate the stance of the US-President Barack Obama towards the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip during the Israeli military operation “Protective Edge”, (81.1%) said “negative”, (7%) “positive”, (7.5%) “balanced towards the two adversaries” and (4.4%) said “I don’t know”.

The International Criminal Court (ICC)

(81.4%) of the Palestinian people in Gaza are in favor of the Palestinian Authority taking resort to the International Criminal Court in the Hague to file charges of war crimes committed by Israel during the military operation “the Protective Edge / the Eaten Straw”, whilst (15.8%) oppose that and (2.8%) were undecided.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)

With respect to the question:” Do you support or oppose, in general, the organization of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)”, (13.1%) said “I support”, (85.2%) “I oppose” and (1.7%) said “I don’t know”.

The Egyptian Mediation Role

Responding to the question:”Up to which extent are you content with the mediation role Egypt has played during the military operation ‘Protective Edge / Eaten Straw?”, (14.7%) said “very content”, (31.3%) “fairly content”, (19.4%) “not so much content”, (33.4%) “not content at all” and (1.2%) said “I don’t know”.

The Iranian-Qatari-Turkish Intervention

In conclusion, being asked:”Do you think that the Iranian-Qatari-Turkish intervention during the military operation “Protective edge / Eaten Straw” could affect the relationship of Hamas to Egypt, or not ?”, (41.7%) said “Yes, it could affect”, (45.3%) said “No, it wouldn’t affect” and (13%) said “I don’t know”.
