Introduction

During Operation Defensive Shield, the IDF imposed a curfew on most residents of the West Bank. When Operation Determined Path began, on 21 June 2002, the army reinstated the curfew on West Bank cities. In some locations, the curfew has continued to the present day. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been imprisoned in their homes for months, except for short breaks during which the IDF allows them to go out to purchase basic necessities.
