Israel stepped up its raids in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, killing 13 people and injuring at least 25 in air raids on Hamas targets in Gaza City. In the first raid, three people were killed in an air missile attack including a member of the Izzedin Al Qassam Brigades, 23-year-old Muheddin Al Sarahi. In another raid, Hamas Legislative Council member Khalil Al Haya survived an assassination attempt after Israeli planes targeted his family’s building, killing seven of his relatives including two brothers.

A child was also killed in Beit Lahiya and his father and four brothers were injured in an Israeli air raid in the area.

Meanwhile, Israeli public security minister Avi Dichter said on Sunday that Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal was not immune to assassination, confirming that if Israel wants to reach him, it can.

Israel says its “renewed” its policy of assassinating Hamas operatives after the Palestinians failed to halt firing homemade rockets into Israel. Israeli warplanes have also targeted alleged “rocket factories”, blowing out the electricity for over 50,000 residents in the process.

According to Israeli authorities, 15 homemade rockets have fallen on Sderot, an Israeli town outside the Gaza Strip. While some property damage was incurred, no injuries were reported.

While Al Haya survived the attack with only minor injuries, Hamas has vowed to retaliate for the assassination attempt on his life.
