The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy (MIFTAH) is gravely concerned about today’s horrific incident, in which an Israeli soldier shot and killed 44-year-old cameraman Nazeeh Darwazeh, as he was filming yet another invasion by the occupation troops in the city of Nablus in the West Bank.

Nazeeh Darwazeh, the cameraman for Palestine TV and a father of four was shot in the head by an Israeli soldier as he was performing his duties. On Saturday morning, as Israeli troops invaded Daraj ElManshiya in the city of Nablus, Adel was obviously filming since he was carrying a camera on his shoulders when he was shot in the head by a trigger-happy Israeli soldier.

Israeli troops have murdered close to a dozen journalists, local and foreign, over the past thirty months. Troops have also killed half a dozen international workers and peace activists in total disregard to human life or their rights to be protected while performing their duties as relief workers or journalists operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Journalists and aid workers are protected by International law and should not be threatened and targeted. Israel should not continue to be treated as a country above the law and should be held responsible and accountable for its grave violations before the international community.

MIFTAH calls on the international community to take immediate and responsible action to hold Israel accountable for the killings conducted by their occupation army throughout the West Bank and Gaza. We call on governments and human rights organizations to condemn Israeli actions which are yet to assure the protection of journalists, foreign aid workers and innocent civilians throughout Gaza the West Bank including east Jerusalem.
