A volunteering lawyer at LAW-the Palestinian Society for the Protection of Human Rights and the Environment has visited new Binyamin detention center within Israeli Ofer military outpost in Betunia west Ramallah and met with a number of Palestinian detainees.

Israeli prison authorities decided to establish the new detention center inside Ofer in order to cope with the crowded conditions. It accommodates Palestinian detainees who are transferred from other Israeli military prisons. According to Palestinian prisoners, Ofer is too crowded and many detainees developed skin rash.

Binyamin is unsuitable for human use; sewage runs through the tents of the Palestinian detainees; moreover, the Israeli guards placed a barrel to be used as a toilet, which is unhygienic and would eventually lead to serious diseases.

Law Society demands the international community to intervene and put and end to the suffering of the Palestinian detainees through exerting pressure on the Israeli government to release all Palestinian detainees. Also, Law Society demands all support for Palestinians detained at Israeli prisons and detention centers, especially the sick ones.

The international community and international organizations must take action and end Israel’s crimes against Palestinians and to immediately implement international resolutions.
