MIFTAH’s Executive Director briefs British Consulate-General political consul on the elections
Ramallah – 29/4/2021 – MIFTAH Executive Director Dr. Tahreer Al Araj met last week with Georgina Woodhouse-Hills, the political consul at the British Consulate-General in Jerusalem, and briefed her on the latest developments pertaining to Palestinian elections and their postponement.
They spoke about MIFTAH’s work in the following fields: media monitoring of the elections, capacity –building for female candidates in the various lists, women’s representation in the next PLC, bolstering the capabilities and capacities of women to be able to win in the elections and have an impact in the PLC on gender issues in particular, in addition to being able to present and discuss laws pertaining to justice and equality.
The meeting also broached the subject of elections monitoring and the role of the PLC in discussing issues put to it. They spoke about the electoral lists MIFTAH held discussions with and the Family Protection Law, which is still pending. They noted, however, that the NGO Coalition for Combatting Violence Against Women recently began working on new campaigns to build up public opinion around the protection of women from violence.
Dr. Araj stressed that MIFTAH would continue its work on the capacity-building of women leaders to run in either the PLC or local council elections from an angle of justice and equality.
