The conference focused on international mobilization of public opinion and action, resulting in the creation of an international network for peace, justice and democracy in the Middle East.

The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy, MIFTAH, and the Faculty for Israeli-Palestinian Peace, FFIPP, successfully hosted the Second International Conference on an End to Occupation, a Just peace in Israel-Palestine.

The conference, held in the Notre Dame, Jerusalem, on January 4th-5th, was following up on the progress achieved by the first conference, which was held in June, 2003, and dealt with the role of academia.

Conference participants agreed to coordinate their work –in 30 countries- among university professors, students and other intellectuals. Coming from countries as far as South Africa, Egypt, Europe and the United states, attendees agreed that working to end the Israeli occupation requires an immediate global effort to compel Israel to reverse construction of the wall.

The second conference saw the participation of leading personalities in their respective fields. Dr. Hanan Ashrawi gave the opening keynote speech, while other prominent speakers included Mustafa Barghouti , Judith Butler, Ilan Pappe, Eric Rouleau, Eyad Sarraj and Salim Tamari to name but a few. Attendance was far higher than expected, showing the urgency and need for the second conference amid these tumultuous times.
