WOMEN'S DEMONSTRATION AGAINST THE WALL IN BIDDU TOMORROW

Second Nonviolent Women's Demonstration in Biddu in the Last Three Weeks

[Biddu, NW Jerusalem] Tomorrow, May 11, 2004 at 11:00 am Palestinian, Israeli and International women will gather at the Municipal council of Biddu and march to the worksite of the Israeli separation barrier to protest the continued construction of the barrier and the destruction of their land. This will be the second women's demonstration in Biddu in the last three weeks.

During the last women's demonstration in Biddu, at least 4 nonviolent protesters were arrested. One Palestinian women, Deema Hamdan from Al-Isawiya was reportedly beaten by the soldiers after she was arrested. Other arrestees were French citizen Angela Coppin, British citizen Angela Julian from the IWPS and American citizen Huwaida Arraf.

Israeli soldiers on horses charged the women who were dispersing, hitting them with batons. An elderly woman was hit in the neck during the charge and an Israeli woman was severely beaten on the head by a mounted border policeman, requiring her hospitalization.

Despite the excessive use of violence of the Israeli Army the women of Northwest Jerusalem remain steadfast in their nonviolent struggle for the survival of their land and way of life.
