Dear Madam, The object of the present poll is to be acquainted with the performance of the PA President Abu Mazin and certain members of the PA cabinet, the declarations at his meeting with US-president George Bush and the evaluation of his visit. The poll further probes the calm with the Israelis and the condition of Al-Aqsa Intifada. It tried further to cast an eye over the coming PLC elections, the opinion of the Palestinians about their personal security and their support to the political parties. From Majd Kokaly – Information Section In the latest poll prepared by Dr. Nabil Kukali and conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO) in the period from (6 – 11) of June, 2005 during different working hours, a random sample of (965) Palestinian adults over 18 years was included, representing the various demographic models of the Palestinian society in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip. “All interviews took place on the basis of random choices of respondent’s homes, i.e. face to face”, Dr. Kukali, President of PCPO, said. These sites in turn were the beginning of the random sample choice made from that region in accordance with PCPO’s long experienced methodology. The sampling error throughout the survey is found at (±3.18%). The percentage of female respondents was (47.1%) whilst that of the male ones was (52.9%). The distribution of the random sample among the residential areas of the respondents was (65.5%) in the West Bank, incl. East Jerusalem, and (34.5%) in Gaza Strip. The average age of the random sample of the respondents was (32.7) years.
“The most substantial issue the poll has revealed is that (75.3%) support at different degrees the call of Abu Mazin upon Hamas to abandon the violence”, Dr. Kukali said. He further added that “the rate of support for Abu Mazin’s performance is high and the rate of the Palestinians who support the formation of a government of national unity is (48.2%)”.
