Statement of Medecins du Monde Regarding the Second Robbery within a Few Months of the MDM House in Nablus

August 24, 2005

On the morning of Wednesday the 17th of August, MDM staff woke up to find that the house had been robbed for the second time in a few months. Although only certain material objects were stolen (receiver, walkman…), the fact that members of the MDM expatriate were in the house at the time, only added to the deep shock of all MDM staff in Nablus, Jerusalem, Gaza and abroad.

The Palestinian police were called at once, and they were equally surprised to learn that MDM had yet again been the target of robbery within the short period of a few months.

Although MDM is confident that the Police and local authorities in Nablus are doing their best to apprehend those responsible, MDM remains deeply shocked by the nature of this robbery. MDM denounces this act which has left the Nablus team feeling insecure despite the fact that MDM has been present in Nablus for several years.

MDM remains committed to its mental health programs in the District of Nablus together with local Palestinian partners. In spite of the growing feeling of insecurity of the MDM team in light of the recent event, MDM has decided to maintain its office in Nablus for the time being. MDM hopes that the guarantees given regarding the reinforcement of the security of its teams will be respected.
